Lundberg Art Glass Worldweight
This is a very beautiful Worldweight from Lundberg art glass studios. This paperweight is tediously made using different layers of glass. A special powdered glass (almost like fine sand) is used to draw and color the continents. This is done on a flat surface. A piece of hot glass is then rolled over this image causing it to adher to the glass. Through a painstaking process the glass is then reheated and reshaped without causing distortion to the continents. It is then redipped in clear glass to create the atmospheric layer. A final coating of glass is then applied to finish the piece. It is a very beautiful and artistic item. This one is 3.75″ in diameter and was given to me as a sales award over 10 years ago. These pieces are still being made today and can be purchased from Lundberg studios in Davenport California. I have the original brochure that came with the piece. It describes how the piece was made and verifies the serial number etched on the bottom of the Worldweight. A really nice work of art. JPA
